Lake Township’s 70 miles of roadways are maintained by the Lake Township Road Department which duties include snow removal and salting, repairing roadways, storm sewers and mowing all township roadsides. Lake Township has averaged paving 2.5 miles of roadway a year for the past 10 years.
Only mailboxes damaged by DIRECT CONTACT with a vehicle or a plow while performing Lake Township maintenance operations will be repaired or replaced with an approved design based on Postmaster of the U.S. Postal Service recommendations. Mailbox damage by thrown snow DOES NOT warrant replacement. In the event that the mailbox is of a specialty or exotic type of construction, the Township’s liability per occurrence is limited to the actual cost of the mailbox unit up to $50.00, otherwise, an approved design mailbox as set out by the Postmaster of the U.S. Postal Service will be installed or a cash settlement up to $50.00. An inspection of the damaged mailbox by the Lake Township Road Department along with a signed release form (replacement receipt) is required prior to payment. Damage claims and settlements are subject to review by the Lake Township Trustees.
